I’m on my own version of a low carb diet. What is a good weight loss supplement that I could take while on an Atkins-style diet?

Screw the Atkins diet… that’s a farce. If you want really effective long lasting weight loss, you’ll cut your calorie intake and increase your calorie output. That means, quite simply, diet and exercise. Green tea will help with the fat burning and metabolism, but it won’t replace the simple math of fewer calories in verses more calories out. Here’s more:

Here’s all you need to lose weight and get healthy. First, you have to realize there is no quick, long lasting weight loss plan or pill that is going to do the trick. It’s purely mental. You have to learn to “Eat to live, don’t live to eat”. Sounds simple, doesn’t it? It is, if you understand that you are going to be reprogramming how you think about eating for the next few weeks. Old habits die hard, right? Not really. You get rid of bad habits by replacing them with good habits. If you learn to count your calories, keep calorie intake lower than output, exercise moderately, and eat only healthy food, you will lose weight. That’s a fact. All it takes is repetition. All success stories have this in common: The successful folks among us know how to be patient, persistent, and consistent. Set a goal and stick with it. The benefits of feeling good will outweigh any sense of sacrifice you might feel about having to push away that cake and ice cream. Too bad for you weight loss and "Atkins style diet" are the exact opposite. Wake up man, it’s not 2003 anymore. Carbs don’t make you fat, FAT makes you fat. That’s why they call it fat.

Eat more veggies, less meat (fat) and work out more. THAT is the ONLY key to permanent weight loss.

Skobie – please do me a favor and don’t try taking any weight loss supplements while you are on your Atkins diet. The Atkins diet can help you lose weight fast – some people I’ve worked with (including doctors) have done it and had good results. They also had the benefit of personal trainers and really worked hard at the gym.

BUT – the Atkins diet (or any high protein-low carb diet) is VERY hard on the body – particularly the liver. You should really only do this type of diet if you have had liver enzyme blood work done to make sure your liver is healthy as possible and then follow up with further tests as you progress in your diet. If you are young you are possibly ok – but only the tests can tell for sure.

Taking a weight loss supplement on top of the diet could make you extremely ill. It’s not the type of thing where you feel crummy for awhile and then you develop liver failure and need a transplant – it’s more like you feel fine until you wake up one day and -boom- you are so sick you need to be in the hospital.

My recommendation for a good healthy diet is the Sonoma diet. Worked great for me and I found it easy to stick to. Of course, I made sure to do my work outs, too…

    Good luck, sweetheart!

A lot of people recommend L-Carnitine, but I haven’t tried it myself.
