is it necessary to try a weight loss supplement when working out a gym?

im 5’3" and 230 lbs…just joined a local gym and am trying to get this excess weight off of me. one of the trainers (lucille roberts) told me about the supplements that they have. is it generally healthy to use one of these supplements, along with excercising and healthy eating…how much success will i have in regards to dropping weight? how soon will i see results?
