Does the body automatically burn fat if you exercise first thing in the morning without breakfast?

I know that for the first 20-30 minutes of any aerobic exercise, the body only burns off the sugars in your blood, after that period of time, the body is told that it needs to use it’s emergency stored energy – fat to keep your body going. Therefore causing fat loss.

If you wake up and do aerobic activity without breakfast, does the body start burning fat right away/or require less time to use your blood sugar stores? If it takes less time, how long until your body starts burning off fat?

Thanks for answering. Please no answers about Acai berry or any other diet supplements.

Running for a long distance will burn alot of calories during the excerise and it will burn calories throughout the day. I suggest eating something light like a piece of bread so you dont upset your stomach. Then afterwards eat a hearty breakfast :)

I’m not sure about how long it takes for sugars/fats in the body to burn. But I do know that if you’re exercising in the morning, you’re not burning off the calories prior to exercise because it’s been sitting in your body for a long period of time already. It’s more effective in the evening/after dinner when your digestive system is a little quicker because of the calories you have put in your body and metabolism.

your metabolism starts up when you eat. if you just start to work out it wont burn anything because it wont be moving functionally. you have to eat first, you will see better results…oh & here try acai berry… hahaha kidding (: but seriously eat first.

our bodies NEVER burn one substrate exclusively. It’s just a higher percentage that it will burn. What you say above is correct. After the nightime/sleep fast, our bodies are pretty depleted of glucose (the 2nd favorite substrate our bodies like to burn. 1st being alcohol) so there is not much sugars to burn. What’s next in line as our bodies favorite? well, if the intensity is too high, it will prefer to create glucose from our muscles. But if we keep the intensity lower, it will use a higher percentage of stored fats to fuel the cardio.

Safe rule of thumb is keep it at 130 for low intensity.
