Colon cleansers are not considered safe while breastfeeding because in theory it could release toxins into mom’s blood. If the baby received the drug or herbs then it would cause diarrhea in the baby which could get very serious. Cleansing can also deprive mom, and her milk, or nutrients.

Acai berries aren’t specifically proven safe or unsafe during nursing, however acai berries supplements are commonly found to contain other instead of acai berries. Acai berries in amounts that would normally be consumed in a balanced diet are not harmful.

To keep it short: no. Unlike most powerful health products, the berry is a natural one. It doesn’t use chemicals and it won’t force your body into changing. Many people wonder if they can take the berry while breastfeeding and the answer is obviously yes. Anyone can use this fruit because it never offers side-effects. Studies have demonstrated the positive sides of using these ingredients and there is no reason to suspect it for any negative results. If you are breastfeeding and want to use the berry for any type of reason, you can do it without having to worry. It will only act positively on you, it will strengthen your immune system and it can easily make you lose weight.

It is not a good idea to engage in colon cleansing immediately after your baby is born if you intend to breastfeed.

There is a risk that your baby could be deprived of essential vitamins and nutrients if you do so during the colon cleansing program.

There is also a risk that you may become dehydrated which is caused by you engaging in colon cleanssing and breastfeeding at the same time. Talk to your doctor if you have any specific questions that remain unanswered about colon cleansing and pregnancy.

    Foods In General

First of all, my general rule of thumb regarding whether a certain food (not including known intoxicants and herbal remedies) is safe to consume for breastfeeding mothers is everything in moderation. A little here or there in a diet of a wide variety of foods is unlikely to cause a problem. HOWEVER, before you start consuming a concentrated form of the food (as in an herbal remedy) or consuming significant portions of a single food, it is a good idea to consider whether the item is safe for lactating mothers. There are two primary concerns: (1) safety for the nursling who might receive some effect through the breast milk, and (2) impact on the mother’s milk supply.

So what do my “go to” sources above say about breastfeeding and acai berries? Kellymom does not list information about the acai berry, and Dr. Hale says to be cautious, both because we don’t know much if anything about its use in breastfeeding mothers, and the internet is full of warnings about fake berries.
