Are herbal supplements safe with prescription meds?

I’m taking some prescription medication and wondered if I can take something called Acai Berry with a Colon Cleanse? The Acai is a dietary supplement. My doctor is not in but I wondered if someone would have an idea about this mixture? I take very low doses of Levothyroxine, Toprol, Celexa and Xanax.

Thanks for any help.

The Acai berry should not be any problem for you. However, the Colon Cleanse might.

Does the Colon Cleanse product contain large amounts of fiber and/or bentonite clay? If so, don’t take it at the same time you take your other meds, as it may sequester the meds in your intestinal tract and prevent their absorbtion. Give yourself at least two hours between the doses of colon cleanse and meds, just to be sure.

Typically there is no harm in combining Eastern and Western medicines as they work on 2 separate levels.

I would say go ahead, but you should probably ask your doctor just to be 100% sure :-)

It depends. I know that if one is taking St. John’s Wort they do NOT compliment with their prescribed already psychological drugs. There are others but general 95% of them are okay with prescribed meds.
